Note Taking and Organizing Print Page

What and Why

Taking and organizing notes is essential and personal.  It is essential so you don't forget your own ideas, and so you remember who came up with the ideas that were not yours.  There are different styles and methods.  Here are a few that you can try.

Technology Tips

There are some new technologies out there that might help with note-taking and organizing.  They are new, which is to say, they can be buggy or limited, but in combination, they can be very helpful.  Experiment with them, but don't necessarily depend on them.

  • Zotero
This will organize your citations and spit them out in MLA.
  • Google Sidewiki
A new Google product enables you to annotate web pages. You have to install Google toolbar on your browser to make it work.
  • Evernote
Enables you to capture screens, photos, etc. and save them to a little library. Works well with iPhones and Android.
